Reference data

Reference data in ZEDI is represented by tables, registers and metadata.

Tables

Lookup tables are used to plug gaps in information when mapping transactions. For example, when an incoming invoice contains only the buyer’s product code and the business systems need the corresponding supplier’s product code.

Tables can be designed to accommodate a wide variety of needs. Their contents can be maintained on-line, via a spreadsheet download/modify/upload process, or via an automated action that imports the data based on information provided by your business systems.

Registers

Registers are used to provide non-technical colleagues with information about the business documents processed by ZEDI. For example, information about received orders. The colleague can easily filter the register to locate the transactions they wish to see, and they can download the register as a spreadsheet for further analysis if they wish.

Registers also allow the transactions to be viewed in a human-sensible form, making it easy for your colleagues to understand detailed information about individual transactions.

Metadata

ZEDI can extract and record useful information from each transaction at it get processed. For example, a list of the invoice numbers contained within an EDI file containing multiple invoices.

This metadata can then be used in searches to quickly locate the transaction, or transactions, that referred to a specific business document.

Metadata can also be used to control the process flow, for example, handling new orders differently from order changes.
